It is a pilgimage centre at the confluence of the Gomti & Saryu rivers. Bageshwar is 90 km from
Almora, 23km from Baijnath & 80 km from Kashipur, famous primarily as a prominent Shivaite delight. 
This quaint hamlet at a height of 960m abounds in religious legends,
festive happenings and mind blowing surroundiongs. As the Purana State this undoubtedly is a place capable of liberating one from the eternal bondage of birth & death
According to scriptures, Bageshwar is truly a blessed place by Lord Shiva. The famous Baghnath Temple built by King Lakshmi Chand in 1602 AD, plays host to the biggest Uttrayani Mela ( 14th Jan.) every year (14 Jan.) thousands of Shiva devouts throng Bageshwar to offer their prayers & to blessed. Popular belief prevalent here says that prayers are always answered. Pilgrims often equate it to Varanasi in divinity and sanctity. It is believed, thatMarkandeya Muni Lived here and Lord Shiva, disguised as a tiger had wandered here. Take a look around & you will find Bhileshwar mountains overlooking in the East, Neeleshwar mountians meditating in the Wes, Suraj Kund basking in legends in the north and Agini Kund radiating in the south.

A massive fair is also held on Shivaratri each year to commorate the event of installation of Shivalinga after performing penances by Manorath Pandey of Palyan Village. 
Bageshwar is an important destination for the trekkers also. It is the base for treks to Pindari, Kapri & Sundardhunga glaciers. 
Bageshwar is well connected with all the major towns & cities of Kumaon & Garhwal region.

Air: 127km from Almora, Pantnagar is the nearest airport. At present flights are however not operational. Rail: Kathgodan (90 Km) isthe nearest railhead with connection to Delhi, Howrah & Lucknow. Road : Buses connect Almora with Kathgoam, Nainital (66km), Ranikhet, Pithoragarh(122km) & Delhi (380km) directly. There is also direct connection to Nepal Border, Banbassa(7 hours). Buses depart at a regular interval, every halfof an hour for Kathgoadam (3 hours). It takes about 2 hours to travel to
