According to scriptures, Bageshwar is truly a blessed place by Lord Shiva. The famous Baghnath Temple built by King Lakshmi Chand in 1602 AD, plays host to the biggest Uttrayani Mela ( 14th Jan.) every year (14 Jan.) thousands of Shiva devouts throng Bageshwar to offer their
prayers & to blessed. Popular belief prevalent here says that prayers are always answered. Pilgrims often equate it to Varanasi in divinity and sanctity. It is believed,
thatMarkandeya Muni Lived here and Lord Shiva, disguised as a tiger had wandered here. Take a look around & you will find Bhileshwar mountains overlooking in the East, Neeleshwar mountians meditating in the Wes, Suraj Kund basking in legends in the north and Agini Kund radiating in the south.
A massive fair is also held on Shivaratri each year to commorate the event of installation of Shivalinga after performing penances by Manorath Pandey of Palyan Village.
Bageshwar is an important destination for the trekkers also. It is the base for treks to
Pindari, Kapri & Sundardhunga glaciers.

Air: 127km from Almora, Pantnagar is the nearest airport. At
present flights are however not operational. Rail: Kathgodan
(90 Km) isthe nearest railhead with connection to Delhi,
Howrah & Lucknow. Road : Buses connect Almora with
Kathgoam, Nainital (66km), Ranikhet, Pithoragarh(122km) &
Delhi (380km) directly. There is also direct connection to
Nepal Border, Banbassa(7 hours). Buses depart at a regular
interval, every halfof an hour for Kathgoadam (3 hours). It
