Centre releases Rs 4 crore to build toilets in Uttrakhand


The central government has released Rs 4 crore for construction of individual and community toilets in urban areas of Uttarakhandunder Swachh Bharat Mission.

Sources in the state government said that approximately Rs 2 crore have been sanctioned for 500 community toilets and Rs 2 crore for 10,000 individual toilets.

According to official sources, the state government has set a target of constructing 27,640 individual toilets and 2,500 community toilets till 2019.

Ravi Bisht, state mission manager (urban), Swachh Bharat Mission told TOI, “The funds have been released in instalments and the total amount released by the Centre for individual toilets is approximately Rs 6 crore while for community toilets it is Rs 4 crore till now.”

Dehradun nagar nigam has received approximately 2,200 applications for construction of toilets and will release Rs 12,000 to each applicant. Of the 12,000, Rs 5,333 will be given by the state government, Rs 4,000 by the nigam and the rest will be through CSR of various banks.
